A simple way you can make sure that all your conversations matter and make a difference is by simply imagining you are a lift operator.  Every time you have a conversation with someone your language is like the buttons on a lift. 

 

You can take people up or take people down.  When people walk away from a conversation with you, do they feel you have taken them up to the penthouse or down to the basement?  In every conversation you have a simple choice; you either HELP people or HARM people.  What choice do you make?

 

More importantly, this also applies when you have conversations about people when they are not around.  If someone puts another person down do you join in the take down, or do you have the courage and integrity to hit the emergency stop button and start taking them up?
